Two recent additions expand Christian Louboutin's lavish Portuguese hotel, showcasing its vibrant style.
Introducing Vermelho Hotel: A Luxurious Retreat in Melides, Portugal
Christian Louboutin's debut into the world of hospitality, Vermelho Hotel, opened its doors in the charming coastal town of Melides, Portugal, in 2023. This intimate boutique hotel and villa complex offers a unique blend of luxury, craftsmanship, art, and local heritage.
Situated at R Dr Evaristo Sousa Gago 2, 7570-635 Melides, Portugal, Vermelho Hotel boasts 13 uniquely designed rooms arranged in a villa-like layout, rather than a sprawling resort. The architecture, designed by Madalena Caiado, combines traditional Portuguese forms with intricate craftsmanship and baroque-inspired ceramic artworks by Italian artist Giuseppe Ducrot.
The interiors, designed with Carolina Irving, showcase an eclectic mix of antique furnishings, patterned textiles, and handcrafted surfaces that reflect Iberian traditions and Louboutin’s personal aesthetic. The hotel also includes a wellness space, a hammered-silver bar, and an in-house restaurant serving local Alentejan cuisine on hand-thrown crockery.
Louis Benech's garden design creates intimate outdoor rooms, enhancing the villa ambience. The garden path leads to a large, secluded pool in La Maison des Bateaux, a new structure at Vermelho Hotel that resembles a whitewashed Alentejan boathouse.
Two new villas, La Salvada and La Maison des Bateaux, have been introduced nearby Vermelho Hotel. La Salvada villa, designed in collaboration with Egyptian designer Tarek Shamma, features a muted pink exterior and a sandy interior with flashes of red and indigo. A Jean-Louis Viard tapestry can be found inside, adding a touch of elegance.
La Maison des Bateaux, on the other hand, has a maritime mood with shell-cluster lamps, miniature boats, and a color scheme of white, deep blue, and sun-baked terracotta. Works by various artists and furniture from Louboutin's own collection are present, creating a distinctive atmosphere. A garden path leads to a large, secluded pool.
Rates at La Salvada start from €2,200 per night, and rates at La Maison des Bateaux start from €1,700 per night. These villas, like the hotel, offer a place to catch the breeze, listen to the cicadas, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the local landscape.
Vermelho Hotel's design ethos blends French, Egyptian, and local Portuguese cultural elements, creating a distinct and poetic retreat that respects and complements the village character of Melides. This project represents a rare crossover of high fashion luxury into boutique hospitality, making it a must-visit destination for discerning travellers.
Discussing the unique villas near Vermelho Hotel, La Salvada and La Maison des Bateaux, each exudes a distinctive ambiance, with La Salvada featuring a muted pink exterior and a sandy interior, while La Maison des Bateaux showcases a maritime mood. In terms of lifestyle, these villas offer a tranquil home-and-garden setting, ideal for unwinding and indulging in the local Alentejan cuisine. For discerning travelers who appreciate a fusion of luxury, art, and local heritage, a stay at these villas or Vermelho Hotel would be an unforgettable journey.
