According to ADV's recent survey of over 125,000 participants, Germany's share of foreign travelers has plummeted from 32% in 2017 to 21% last year[1]. The industry claims this decline is largely due to insufficient flight offerings to Germany, as a result of high taxes and government fees[1]. Ralph Beisel, CEO of ADV, urges the new federal government to consider air traffic as part of their efforts to bolster Germany's tourism appeal[1].

The survey also reveals that business travelers account for just one-fifth of passengers, while private trips, including visits to loved ones and city getaways, have surged[2]. Car journeys to the airport remain the most popular mode of transportation, with 48% of travelers opting for their own vehicles[2].

Frankfurt Airport, Germany's largest, has not escaped the downturn, reporting a loss of 26.4 million euros in the first quarter of this year, contrasting with a profit of 12.7 million euros in the same period last year[2]. In the first quarter, the airport served 12.4 million passengers—almost 1% fewer than the previous year[2].
