Tourists to regain access to Phu Soi Dao's pine forest starting in July
Phu Soi Dao National Park's Pine Forest Ground to Reopen for Tourists on July 1, 2025
After a seasonal closure to support forest recovery, Phu Soi Dao National Park will reopen the popular Pine Forest Ground to tourists on July 1, 2025. The park's renowned Larn Paa Son, located at an elevation of 1,630 meters, will be accessible for trekking and camping from July 1, 2025 to January 10, 2026, as announced by Farut Jaithatkul, the park's Chief (May 8).
The park closed the pine forest ground from January 10 to June 30, 2025, to allow the area to regenerate during the dry season and ensure tourist safety due to the risk of forest fires. After assessing the area's recovery, Jaithatkul confirmed that it is now ready for visitors, with the natural beauty of its pine forest trails awaiting exploration.
Tourists are encouraged to be physically fit for hiking and camping at high altitudes, and bring all necessary camping equipment. Located at the southern end of the Luang Prabang Range, Phu Soi Dao National Park is a protected area that spans parts of Uttaradit and Phitsanulok provinces, and shares a border with Laos.
The park features extensive pine forests, vast grasslands, and pinewood plains, particularly around Larn Paa Son, which is home to Thailand's largest field of Crested Naga flowers (Murdannia giganteum).
