Tourists can now visit the revamped pyramids situated in Giza

The grand opening of the improved pyramids is set for July 3, marking the end of a grueling seven-year renovation phase.
Making History in Seven Years
The Egyptian government partnered with Orascom Pyramids Entertainment (OPE), owned by billionaire Naguib Sawiris, to renovate the Giza plateau. The company's Executive Chairman, Amr Gazazini, revealed to Bloomberg that a "soft launch" began in early April, allowing them to address any issues before the official debut.
OPE will manage the site for the next 11 years, earning income from VIP tours, sponsorship deals, and commercial leasing. These non-ticket-sale revenues are crucial in helping Egypt reach its goal of welcoming 30 million tourists within a decade, putting it on par with Greece and making it one of the world’s most visited countries.
The New and Improved Pyramids Experience
One significant change is the ban on driving on the Giza plateau. Instead of navigating the narrow, winding roads beneath the pyramids, you'll enter through freshly built gates on the highway.
After purchasing tickets and passing through a gleaming hall with introductory exhibits, you'll board new hop-on, hop-off buses. A few minutes later, you'll find yourself at the foot of the three massive pyramids, each built from hefty 80-ton limestone blocks. The Great Sphinx lies even lower.
At various stops throughout the district, you'll find improvements long overdue, such as cleaner restrooms, souvenir shops, and cafes. Additionally, several on-site eateries, including one renowned as one of the best restaurants in the Middle East and North Africa, now offer mouthwatering Egyptian cuisine with a view of the pyramids.
Visitor numbers surged by nearly 24% in April compared to last year, and Egypt's tourism sector is already soaring, with record-breaking arrivals in 2025's early months. However, it's uncertain to what extent the renovation project contributed to this growth.
