Tourism in the Hại Tác Archipelago attracts travelers through immersive experiences

Nestled in An Giang Province, the Ha Tac Archipelago is transforming into a thriving eco-tourism destination. With its picturesque 14 islands, the region is home to over 500 households, including at least 100 engaged in cage fish farming.

The archipelago, recognized as a local tourist area in late 2018, offers unique experiences that blend adventure, culture, and culinary delights. Key activities include cage fish farming, fishing, and squid fishing tours, where visitors can participate in catching seafood directly from cages, followed by a fresh seafood feast on-site.

This approach to tourism is not just about leisure; it's about sustainability and community involvement. The Ha Tac Archipelago's model empowers local fishermen, allowing them to leverage their skills and boats to provide unforgettable experiences for tourists. They take visitors fishing or squid fishing, or let them catch seafood directly from cages, promoting both economic benefits and marine resource sustainability.

In recent years, there has been a significant shift from traditional wild fishing to sustainable cage farming, which helps replenish marine resources while supporting local incomes. This transition is part of a community-based tourism model that integrates residents directly, enabling them to benefit economically and participate actively in tourism. This model helps preserve local culture and environment.

The success of this approach is evident in the rising incomes that are boosting the local economy. Tourism has opened new income opportunities for locals, such as operating motorbike taxis, renting vehicles, trading goods, transporting visitors, and running fishing or squid-fishing tours.

Authorities have encouraged this form of tourism development, recognizing the potential benefits it brings to the community and the environment. By leveraging natural resources through community-based marine tourism, the Ha Tac Archipelago is setting an example for sustainable tourism practices in Vietnam.
