Special Train Journey from Fürth to Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf Depot Organized by Franconian Museum Railway Association Nuremberg

The Franconian Museum Railway Association Nuremberg (FME) is set to organise a unique train journey on August 23, 2025. This special trip will take passengers from Fürth to the European Capital of Culture, Chemnitz (Saxony), and the "Eisenbahn Showplace" in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf Train Depot.

The journey will be a scenic ride through the Franconian and Saxon countryside, making stops at a total of nine Franconian towns along the route. Some of these stops include Neuhaus/Pegnitz, Kirchenlaibach, Marktredwitz, and Hof.

Upon arrival at Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, passengers can expect a variety of attractions. These may include a vehicle parade, exhibitions, cab rides, and the historic rope-operated installation. During the approximately 3.5-hour stay at Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, passengers can also visit the heating house festival.

The Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf Depot, a notable railway heritage site, is often a key attraction for such special trains. However, the exact day-to-day itinerary and attractions for this specific journey, such as scheduled stops, onboard activities, or associated events, are not yet available.

The train will depart from Fürth Hbf approximately 7:49 AM and will reach Chemnitz via Plauen and Zwickau. The train will stop at Chemnitz Hbf approximately 12:58 PM before continuing on to Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, arriving around 1:20 PM.

The round-trip combination tickets for Fürth, Nuremberg, Lauf, Hersbruck, Neuhaus/Pegnitz, and Pegnitz cost 136 euros for adults and 68 euros for children aged 4 to 14 in first class, and 92 euros for adults and 46 euros for children in second class.

Passengers will travel on a diesel locomotive and a historic special train consisting of cars from the 1930s and 1950s. Guest vehicles from friendly associations will be present at the Saxon Railway Museum. One of the significant attractions on the journey is the Göltzschtal Viaduct, completed in 1851 and considered the largest brick bridge in the world.

The route also includes a journey through the "romantic Pegnitz Valley" with its seven tunnels. After the visit to Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, passengers have the opportunity to explore Chemnitz city on their own at the main station. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to check directly with the Franconian Museum Railway Association Nuremberg (FME) or their official event announcements.
