Top-Ranked Aviation Companies of 2025: Safety Edition
Top 25 Safest Airlines for 2025 Announced
AirlineRatings.com, in collaboration with Skyscanner, has revealed the Top 25 Safest Full-Service and Low-Cost Airlines for 2025. The rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation of various factors, including serious incidents, fleet age, profitability, and adherence to safety protocols.
In the Full-Service category, Qantas takes the second spot, followed by Etihad Airways in sixth, Turkish Airlines in eleventh, and Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Emirates tied for third. Notably absent from the top 25 are Singapore Airlines and KLM, despite their high safety standards. Korean Air, however, has managed to climb into the top 10.
The safest Full-Service airline for 2025 is Singapore Airlines, with ANA coming in seventh, Hawaiian Airlines thirteenth, Finnair eighteenth, Alaska Airlines tenth, Iberia seventeenth, and Virgin Australia fifth. Interestingly, British Airways ranks sixteenth, and United Airlines twenty-fourth.
In the Low-Cost category, Jetstar Group holds the second position, with Wizz Air seventh, Frontier Airlines fifth, and easyJet fourth. HK Express is the new number one, pushing AirAsia down to sixth. Vueling and Spirit Airlines did not make the list due to the latter filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2024.
New additions to the Low-Cost category include Air Baltic, Jet2, SKY Airline, and ZipAir. Iberia and Vietnam Airlines have also made their list debut. Southwest Airlines ranks ninth, and VietJet Air eighth.
Safety incidents have been a concern in 2025, with Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 experiencing rapid cabin depressurization due to a manufacturing defect. The crash of JAL Flight 516 at Haneda Airport last year serves as a stark reminder of the importance of a highly skilled crew and adherence to procedures.
On a global scale, the death risk per flight boarding was approximately one in 13.7 million between 2018 and 2022. However, a significant loss of over 200 lives in December 2024 surpassed the 72 fatalities recorded by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2023.
