The Steam Locomotive Experience World (SLEW) in Meiningen is set to host an exciting new special exhibition, titled "Fire - Water - Coal: Taming the Three Primordial Elements," starting on August 9, 2025. This exhibition will run until spring 2026 and promises to be an immersive experience for railway enthusiasts and philatelists alike.

The exhibition spans 300 square meters and features over 50 exhibition frames showcasing lovingly curated collections centered around steam locomotives, diesel engines, tickets, Mitropa, and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the historical and technological relationship between the three elements—fire, water, and coal—and their role in steam locomotive operation and industrial development.

The exhibition will bring railway history to life through the use of stamps, historical documents, locomotive models, and paintings by Peter König, on the theme of railways. New postcards, two individual stamps, and a special cancellation have been designed for the exhibition, including one featuring the locomotive 50 3501 of the Meiningen Steam Locomotive Association.

In addition to these displays, the Writing Station, a unique attraction, will be available for visitors to write cards or letters during the exhibition. The Writing Station offers opportunities for writing, drawing, and stamping, replicating a traditional post office experience. Proceeds from the sale of these cards support the preservation of the locomotive.

All visitors, regardless of age, are invited to explore the appearance of the Writing Station during their visit. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM, and both philatelists and non-philatelists are encouraged to participate in the Writing Station activities.

The Meiningen Philatelic Society and the Steam Locomotive Experience World are presenting this special exhibition. For more specific and detailed information about the exhibition, we recommend checking the official SLEW Meiningen website or contacting their visitor services directly.

On a relaxing note, food-and-drink enthusiasts can await the café corner, featuring authentic German dishes and beverages inspired by the steam locomotive era. Savoring a meal or drink while perusing the displays is a delightful experience not to be missed.
