Starting from August 2025, Romanians will enjoy visa-free entry into Vietnam, permitting stays of up to 45 days.
Vietnam has announced a significant change in its visa policies, effective August 15, 2025, as part of its tourism promotion and development program.
Starting from the designated date, citizens from 12 countries—Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland—will be able to visit Vietnam for tourist purposes without a visa, for up to 45 days 13.
In addition to this tourist visa-free measure, Vietnam has also introduced a limited-term visa exemption for foreign citizens in special categories. These include officials, academics, experts, scientists, professors, investors, corporate leaders, cultural, artistic, sports, and tourism personalities, honorary consuls, and guests of recognized research institutes, universities, and large enterprises 13.
The Ministry of Public Security has the authority to declare certain persons eligible for visa-free entry to Vietnam for diplomatic or socioeconomic purposes. This includes the General Secretary of the Communist Party, State President, Prime Minister, and other senior officials, who can issue invitations for visa-free entry 6.
Research institutes, universities, and large enterprises approved by ministries and similar organizations, government agencies, or directly by the Hanoi government can invite guests without visas 1. The list of eligible research institutes, universities, and large enterprises for visa-free invitations has been approved 1.
The special categories of foreign citizens eligible for the visa exemption include guests of Vietnam's leadership, scientists, experts, university professors, engineers, digital technology specialists, investors, heads of world-class corporations, cultural, artistic, sports, and tourism personalities, as well as honorary consuls from other countries 1.
These individuals are granted multiple-entry visa exemption cards valid for up to five years, allowing them to stay up to 90 days for each entry, facilitating their presence in Vietnam for socio-economic development and tourism promotion purposes 3.
It's important to note that this new visa-free measure in Vietnam also applies to invitations issued by certain research institutes, universities, and large enterprises 2.
The visa-free tourist program for the mentioned countries will be valid until August 14, 2028 4. This initiative is expected to boost tourism and strengthen relationships with the participating countries.
