Remarkable resurgence of Czech Noodle Express

The Czech Railways are set to modernize their trains on the Prague, Dresden, Berlin to Hamburg, Kiel, or Flensburg route with new ComfortJets, scheduled to start running as early as 26th July 2025. However, this modernization may mark the end of an era for the legendary "Dumpling Express."

For those unfamiliar, the "Dumpling Express" was a nickname given to certain trains due to their dumpling dishes and Czech beer served at affordable prices in a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, due to the modernization of trains, the iconic "Dumpling Express" may cease to exist.

However, in a bid to maintain the appeal of the journey to Prague, the Czech Railways have planned a temporary reprieve for the "Dumpling Express." During the next nine months, while construction work affects the route between Berlin and Hamburg, the cult dining cars, WRmz 815, will temporarily run in conjunction with the ComfortJets on three train pairs: Eurocity 378, EC 170, and EC 258.

Departure times for these trains from Prague's main station are at 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28. In the opposite direction, the corresponding trains are the EC171, EC 379, and EC259, with departure times from Berlin at 7:15, 11:16, and 0:16.

After the temporary period, all cult dining cars will run on the Prague - Bohumín route. However, it is unclear whether the Czech Railways' Dumpling Express will continue to operate on selected connections with the new ComfortJets after July 2025. At this time, there is no available data to confirm the status of the Dumpling Express service beyond July 2025.

In the meantime, passengers travelling on the Eurocity connection will find solace in the ComfortJets' bistros instead of the cozy dining cars attached to the "Dumpling Express." The Eurocity connection will end in Berlin for the next nine months due to construction work.

Despite this change, the Czech Railways aim to maintain the appeal of the journey to Prague with dumplings and beer in the future. Whether this will be through the revival of the "Dumpling Express" or a new iteration remains to be seen.

  1. The modernization of trains in the industry may signify the demise of the "Dumpling Express," a nicknamed train renowned for its affordably priced dumpling dishes and Czech beer, in the food-and-drink sector.
  2. Temporarily, the beloved cult dining cars, WRmz 815, will run in conjunction with the new ComfortJets on certain train pairs en route from Prague to Berlin, Kiel, or Flagenburg, offering a reprieve for passengers seeking a taste of the traditional Czech Railways' lifestyle.
  3. For those eager to experience the cultural travel offered by the Czech Railways, they can take advantage of the Eurocity connection that will temporarily cease in Berlin due to construction work, involving the transportaton sector.
  4. Passengers who find solace in home-and-garden comforts, such as a cozy dining car atmosphere, may be disappointed as the ComfortJets' bistros will replace the "Dumpling Express" for the next nine months.
  5. After July 2025, it is uncertain whether the Czech Railways will continue to offer Dumpling Express services on selected connections with the new ComfortJets or if a new variation of the iconic style will emerge, potentially influencing both the lifestyle and travel industries.
