"I like to do, like, experimental rap," she says with a confident smile. Her music is a perfect blend of chaos, teen spirit, and introspection.
The Youthful Crucible: Choices and Responsibilities
Youthful rebellion isn't a new phenomenon, of course. However, the question on every young person's lips, "What should I do?," is one that more and more of today’s generation is asking. Ci Pi shares that her grandparents were engulfed by the war, deprived of choices, and her parents migrated to the city at a time when Vietnam was struggling to overcome poverty.
CI PI: I feel like our generation, like, we do not have an exact route to follow. We can do whatever we want if - just if we have enough resources.
The challenge, however, lies in figuring out what she truly desires.
CI PI: Do I want the success of being famous and being a star? Or should I be a smart student and work in a literature field?
Carrying the weight of responsibility, Ci Pi acknowledges that laziness is not an option in a country still on the brink of development.

A similar sentiment of patriotism and responsibility was echoed by a man behind one of Vietnam's most popular Facebook pages in a back-alley café in Hanoi.
The Passionate Voice of a Nation
At 32, the page's creator chose to remain anonymous as sharing controversial views might jeopardize his day job in software. The anonymous man, who calls his page Tifosi (Italian for a passionate fan), initially published about soccer. However, his page gained traction when he shifted to politics, society, and history.
His content frequently aligns with the government and exhibits ultranationalistic views. For example, he supports the consumption of dog meat, a traditional Vietnamese dish, and criticizes what he perceives as excessive reverence towards foreign leaders. Despite the polarizing nature of his writings, he asserts that different opinions are valid, as long as they are accurate and foster a positive, uplifting message.
Despite the government crackdown on outspoken bloggers, Tifosi's creator saw the police and security agencies as a force that embraces his perspective as a positive influence rather than a potential threat. His page boasts over 300,000 followers, demonstrating the widespread Agreement with his nationalistic stance.
Vietnam: A Blend of Influences and Identity
From music and fashion to social media trends, American culture continues to exert a significant influence on modern Vietnamese youth. However, social media also provides a platform for young Vietnamese to express their national pride and unity. During national celebrations like the 30thAnniversary of Reunification, TikTok becomes a platform for promoting historical education and fostering a sense of shared Vietnamese identity.
Embracing the New and the Old
The modern Vietnamese youth embody the perfect blend of adaptation and preservation. They embrace the newest trends in technology, entertainment, and fashion while maintaining a deep connection to their cultural heritage. This delicate balance demonstrates the remarkable adaptability and self-awareness of a generation that is eager to shape its destiny, forging new paths in a rapidly changing world.
