Rapid Growth: Romania's Tourism Platform Reaches 280,000 Active Users in a Year
Diving into Romania's rich heritage, Attractive Romania/România Atractivă - the nation's very first cultural tourism initiative - has been making waves since its debut. Launched in 2024 by the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE), it's become the second most popular Romanian travel app, trailing only Munții Noștri.
This ingenious project has designed 12 mesmerizing cultural routes across the country, seamlessly connecting visitors with a dazzling array of cultural landmarks (275 and counting!) via its website and adorable mobile app.
"This beauty queen of an app has brought numerous untold tales to the forefront, bridged people with our historical roots, and highlighted spots that whisper stories of their own," said Răzvan Popescu, State Secretary at MIPE. With aspirations to expand Romania's cultural map and supercharge tourism experiences with digital tools, Răzvan urged us to keep our eyes peeled for what's next.
The platform's magnetism on social media is off the charts, captivating over 12.4 million souls. Users have taken their personal curation to the next level with the My Route/Traseul Meu feature, creating nearly 6,000 tailor-made lists of jaw-dropping attractions. Over 350 cultural events have been spotlighted through the app, too.
Several fan-favorite routes rule the hearts of travelers, with the Castle Route, Traditional Gastronomy Route, and the Monasteries of Moldova Route being the reigning queens. Additional noteworthy routes delve into fortified churches, Roman ruins, traditional villages, and the stunning Danube Delta cultural landscape.
Mind-blowing sights like Corvin Castle, Apafi Castle, Teleki Castle, Beldy Ladislau Castle in Budila, Ion Ghica Mansion, and Ugron Castle are just a few of the must-see destinations within the reach of this app. For those craving gastronomic adventures, you'll find delectable regional specialties such as Flavors and Tastes of Dobrogea and Hercynian Cuisine.
International visitors are equally smitten, as Germany, Hungary, Italy, and France are among the top countries where users come from. Domestically, Bucharest, Cluj, and Timiș have seen the most action, closely followed by Brașov, Iași, Prahova, Constanța, Bihor, and Sibiu.
In a whirlwind first week, the app climbed up the ranks to land itself a spot in the "Travel & Local" category at the third and ninth positions in various European countries, including Italy, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, France, and the UK.
Pegged with a budget of over RON 36 million, this Attractive Romania endeavor is a vital component of the Tourism and Culture segment of Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The principal beneficiaries are local authorities, domestic jetsetters, and far-off travelers.
So, stay tuned as we unravel even more breathtaking destinations from Romania's illustrious past and tantalizing culinary fare for all to experience!
