He intentionally avoids modern elements like cell phones and cars in his images, opting for timeless settings to create a sense of nostalgia and isolation. "I am drawn to the psychology of my images, as it mirrors my own perspective," Crewdson said in an interview with the Albertina Museum in Vienna, where his retrospective was displayed last year. Longing, calm, distance, and sadness are prevalent themes in his work.
Crewdson treasures the search for the deeper meaning of life through his art. "Every image only hints at the truth. One must continue creating images to uncover the elusive essence," he said.
