Passengers Aboard Strasbourg-Paris TER Train Left Stranded for Entire Night on Meuse Route

Stranded Passengers on TER Train Near Bar-le-Duc Due to Freight Train Breakdown

Due to a broken-down freight train near Vitry-le-François, a TER train carrying 300 passengers on its route from Strasbourg to Paris was stranded overnight at Bar-le-Duc. The freight train malfunctioned around 5:15 PM on Friday, May 31, halting all TER trains between Saint-Dizier and Chalons-en-Champagne.

The affected TER train departed from Strasbourg at 4:19 PM and was originally scheduled to arrive in Paris at 9:23 PM. However, due to the breakdown, passengers spent eleven hours on the stationary train. The train's location made it impossible for SNCF to secure sufficient hotel rooms for all passengers. The train had to travel in the opposite direction to Nancy, where only two families could find accommodations via taxis.

Upon facing the delayed TER train, SNCF teams were present with bottled water and meal trays for the passengers. The train was finally able to depart at 5:45 AM on Saturday, May 31. Regarding ticket refunds, the regional authorities are responsible, as stated by SNCF, which expressed apologies for the situation.

While there have been ongoing strikes and disruptions in France's rail network, this specific incident appears to be isolated, with the freight train breakdown being the main cause for the passenger train's predicament. Regular maintenance works and service interruptions on RER, Transilien, and metro lines in the Île-de-France region may have impacted travel plans but were not related to the Strasbourg-Paris TER train's predicament.

  1. Despite the ongoing challenges in France's rail network, the stranded TER train passengers in Bar-le-Duc, initially hoping for a lifestyle filled with sports and travel, found themselves caught in a general news story of an unexpected freight train breakdown.
  2. As the stranded TER train passengers finally made their way to their destinations, some might have felt resentful about the travel disruptions, as they missed out on not only their sports and leisure activities but also experiences associated with a particular lifestyle that came with venturing beyond their usual environments.
