Oregon's Stunning Hiking Path Unveils Untitled, Turquoise Glacial Lake Surrounded by Natural Beauty

In the heart of Central Oregon's high desert vistas, pine forests, rocky river gorges, and snow-capped volcanic peaks lies a hidden gem - No Name Lake. Nestled within the Three Sisters Wilderness, this alpine freshwater body is a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts.

The Broken Top Trail, a popular hiking route, leads to No Name Lake and offers a thrilling experience with stunning views of the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Adams. However, the forest road leading to the Broken Top Trailhead is a rough, rutted, potholed obstacle course suitable only for high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles.

For those seeking a less-crowded route, the Todd Ridge Trail is an adventurous and energetic option. Climbing from Todd Lake to No Name Lake and Broken Top, this trail offers more variety of landscape compared to the Broken Top Trail, with craggy peaks, alpine meadows, ice and snow, patches of forest, and some of the best views in Oregon. Due to the punishing summer sunlight at higher elevations, hikers are advised to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Alternative routes to No Name Lake include the Broken Top Loop and the Tam McArthur Rim Trail. The Tam McArthur Rim Trail Route offers scenic views as it follows the rim of the Three Sisters area and leads directly to No Name Lake, with a moderate elevation gain and a rewarding backdrop of wildflowers and alpine scenery near the lake.

The Broken Top Loop Route, on the other hand, connects to access points leading to No Name Lake and allows for more varied terrain, exploring additional nearby alpine features within the Wilderness.

Arriving at the trailhead early (before 8AM) is suggested to secure a parking spot, which costs $5 unless a Northwest Forest Pass is possessed (available for $30 annually). A wilderness permit is required for hiking the Broken Top Trail and should be applied for ahead of time.

Central Oregon, located in the western United States, is a destination for fall outdoor adventures. The region is home to the Deschutes National Forest and the state's second-largest state park, which feature deep scenic canyons. No Name Lake and the Broken Top Trail are just a part of the region's natural beauty, making Central Oregon a perfect getaway for nature lovers.
