In the spirit of empowering and uniting, The Moorings and The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board team up as formidable partners for the 2024 Midwest Women's Sailing Bash, offering an enticing array of prizes, raffle goods, and a presentation on chartering the breathtaking BVI.
This spectacular event brought together 140 spirited wanderers from the Midwest during a weekend of learning, laughter, and camaraderie. Held yearly in the vibrant city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the epochal gathering fittingly unfolded on May 18—the International Day for Womxn in Maritime. Echoing the ethos of embracing all, this event welcomed womxn of diverse experiences and backgrounds. And with each passing year, its popularity continues to soar, reaching peak attendance.
The festivities commenced with a gripping Safety at Sea course, followed by an emotionally charged presentation by the keynote speaker, Betsy Alison, a five-time Rolex Woman of The Year and a US sailing delegate. Her riveting talk focused on resilience at sea, recounting her remarkable story of perseverance in the face of adversity, even after conquering cancer, to ultimately emerge victorious in a World Championship.
The itinerary included a variety of topics, ranging from navigation and basic chart reading, a hands-on docking lesson, winch maintenance, advanced sail trim, essential knots, rules of the road, and much more.
