Medical Professional Providing Pro-Bono Services

The Luangwa Safari Association Medical Fund (LSAMF) in Mfuwe, Eastern Province, Zambia, is seeking an experienced doctor to join their volunteer project in the South Luangwa Valley starting from January 2026.

The role involves providing medical care to the local community via the Kakumbi Rural Health Centre (KRHC), which serves an estimated population of approximately 20,000. The clinic handled 1,500+ patients per month and is growing due to increasing local demand.

Key responsibilities include clinical care at KRHC, weekly morning training at the district hospital, participation in community health clinics, and coordination with local insurance and medevac services when needed. The role also involves providing medical support for lodge staff and tourists, including occasional in-person callouts.

Doctors are responsible for managing LSAMF stock for member consultations and ensuring secure storage of patient files, with locked hard copies and soft copies accessible only by the doctor. The clinic's medical equipment and supplies are limited, but investigations are conducted using malaria RDTs, HIV testing, glucometer, and pregnancy tests.

Doctors must apply for a temporary medical licence through the Medical Council of Zambia, supported by LSAMF. The volunteer role with the LSAMF lasts for 3-6 months. Doctors are on call 24/7 for lodge-related queries but are not on call for KRHC outside normal working hours, except in serious emergencies.

The clinic includes two 3-bed wards, a dedicated delivery suite and postnatal bed, and regular clinics for chronic disease, family planning, and under-5 care. The role may include participation in community activities and proximity to South Luangwa National Park.

To apply, interested candidates should contact the LSAMF directly at [email protected]. The start date for the volunteer role is urgent, beginning in January 2026.
