Long-haul expedition taking off from Sydney to London, slated for 2027 debut.
Fly like a Boss: Qantas' Game-Changing Project Sunrise Revealed
Get ready for an unparalleled flying experience, as Qantas Airways, the Australian flagship carrier, unveils details of Project Sunrise. This revolutionary endeavor aims to break records for the world's longest non-stop passenger flight between Sydney and London, slated for take-off in the first half of 2027. The mind-boggling journey will stretch over 20 hours and span a distance of 17,015 km, as reported by Time Out.
With this ambitious project, Qantas hopes to snatch the crown from Singapore Airlines, whose Singapore-New York non-stop flight currently rules the roost in terms of duration and distance (around 18.5 hours and 15,300 km, respectively). To make this nearly day-long journey less daunting, Qantas has planned a fleet of 12 state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Say adieu to cramped spaces, as the regular seating capacity of 300 takes a backseat, giving way to a comfier and spacious cabin with just 238 seats.
In a bid to make passengers feel like kings and queens, Qantas will introduce the "wellness zone." Nestled between economy and premium cabins and open to all passengers, this wellbeing haven will offer relief from the fatigue of a 20-hour flight. Features include screen exercise programs, stretch handles, and hydration stations.
First-class passengers can look forward to a lavish in-flight hotel experience. Their cushy airborne suite will come with an armchair and a bed, complete with sliding doors for added privacy, a private wardrobe, storage, and a 32-inch HD screen for entertainment. Business-class passengers will have access to 25-inch-wide seats that transform into 6-foot-5-inch beds, with private suites boasting 3-foot-9-inch-high walls and 18-inch screens for in-flight entertainment.
Premium economy passengers won't be left out either, with a comfortable 40-inch seat featuring winged headrests, a calf rest, and a 13.3-inch screen. Economy-class passengers will enjoy a 3-3-3 seating configuration, with increased legroom, six-way adjustable headrests, and the same 13.3-inch entertainment screen as premium economy.
Staying connected has never been easier, as Qantas will provide high-speed complimentary Wi-Fi, powered by the Viasat-3 satellite network, ensuring passengers can stream content over the Pacific Ocean. In addition, the arrival of the first A350-1000 aircraft is expected in late 2026, with non-stop Sydney-London flights likely to commence between 2027 and 2028.
Qantas is set to redefine the art of flying, blending luxury, wellness, and connectivity to make the world's longest non-stop flight an unforgettable experience.
