LEGO Club at Bookholzberg Primary School Celebrates Cultural Diversity

The LEGO Club at Bookholzberg Primary School in Ganderkesee, Germany, is an exciting extracurricular activity that brings together children from various countries, including Syria, Romania, Iraq, and Poland. The club, which is open to students in grades one to four, provides a fun and educational environment where children can explore their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills by building with LEGO bricks.

One of the key projects of the LEGO Club is the "Enchanted Forest of Cultures." This project aims to teach children about different cultures from around the world through storytelling and visual representation in LEGO form. Club members designed and built trees, creatures, landmarks, and symbols from various cultures, combining them into a single “enchanted forest” scene. The educational goals of this project are to promote understanding and appreciation of global diversity, inspire creativity, and develop building and collaboration skills.

The result is a vibrant, intricate LEGO forest that serves as a learning tool and inspires dialogue about cultural heritage and unity. This LEGO display will be showcased at the upcoming "Brick-tastic" exhibition, an event where the LEGO Club displays their projects to the school community, parents, and visitors. The "Brick-tastic" exhibition will take place on October 21st and 22nd at the INN-tegrativ multi-purpose hall, Apfelallee 1.

The "Brick-tastic" exhibition is more than just a showcase of the children's creativity and hard work; it also encourages community engagement and highlights the educational value of LEGO as a learning medium. Marit Menninger, a member of the LEGO club and the host of the "Brick-tastic" exhibition, expresses her delight at the intergenerational appreciation of LEGO at the event.

The age range of exhibitors at the "Brick-tastic" exhibition is between 6 and 76 years old, demonstrating the universal appeal of LEGO. The Ganderkesee Citizen's Foundation financially supported the LEGO club project, and donations of LEGO bricks can be dropped off at either primary school.

The LEGO club at Bookholzberg primary school provides a unique platform for students with language barriers to communicate through shared activities. It fosters a great atmosphere during meetings, with a lot of building, laughing, and discussing. Katja Wille, the social pedagogue of the Ganderkesee school association, emphasizes that the theme offers opportunities for imagination.

For more specific details about dates, participating classes, or visitor information, please contact Bookholzberg Primary School directly. Financial contributions for the project can be made through the Ganderkesee Citizen's Foundation's homepage at www.buergerstiftung-ganderkesee.de. The LEGO club encourages the creation of impressive structures that tell stories of wizards, sea monsters, dragons, and trolls. Some students participating in the club are absolute beginners, making every build a testament to their growing skills and creativity.

  1. Other than showcasing their LEGO creations at the "Brick-tastic" exhibition, the LEGO Club at Bookholzberg Primary School also aims to promote a universal appreciation for fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, home-and-garden, and travel through discussions and visual representations in LEGO form.
  2. The LEGO Club encourages its members to use their creativity to design LEGO landmarks and symbols representing various cultures, fostering an appreciation for these aspects of other lifestyles.
  3. During the "Brick-tastic" exhibition, visitors can observe and engage with LEGO structures depicting enchanted forests filled with cultural symbols, providing an opportunity to learn and discuss travel experiences and unique traditions found in these cultures.
