Gearing Up for Cycling Paradise: The Prahova County's Vineyard Route Revolution
raphova County is shaking things up with an exciting new project - the construction of cycling infrastructure connecting picturesque vineyard towns. Dubbed as "Cycling through the Vineyards," this project is all about promoting green mobility and enhancing sustainable tourism. With an investment of over RON 25 million, a significant chunk of which comes from non-reimbursable funds provided by the Environmental Fund Administration, this initiative is ready to revolutionize the way we explore the county!
The project kicks off on June 26, focusing on a 6.86-kilometre stretch between Mizil and Gura Vadului. This area, renowned for its vineyards and stunning landscapes, is set to become a must-visit cycling destination. The final plan includes 21 kilometres of bike lanes across two strategic sections, eventually tying Mizil and Urlați to neighbouring wine-producing villages.
At the official launch on June 20, Prahova County Council president Virgiliu Daniel Nanu gave the go-ahead for the project, accompanied by the mayors of Mizil, Gura Vadului, Urlați, Iordăcheanu, and Plopu. Nanu expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "This project not only encourages green transport and a healthier lifestyle but also boosts tourism in this unique wine region. By making the landscape more accessible to cyclists, we're transforming the local experience."
The bike lanes will be a joy to ride on, as they'll be built as one-way tracks, 1.5 meters wide, and safely separated from traffic by markings and curbs. The surfaces will vary based on the terrain, ranging from compacted gravel to concrete slabs and asphalt.
Next up is a 14.8-kilometre segment awaiting approval, which will link Urlați and Plopu, traversing villages rich in cultural and natural heritage. This route will seamlessly connect to an existing cycling lane on DJ 102K, constructed under a previous regional project.
In essence, the "Cycling through the Vineyards" project is a game-changer for Prahova County, promoting eco-friendly transportation, supporting sustainable tourism, and showcasing the region's distinctive vineyard landscapes. Stay tuned for this exciting development!
