A colossal traffic jam formed on this critical Austrian transit route popular with German vacationers. The jam reportedly extended beyond Austria's border and into Bavaria.

The root cause? A tunnel construction site at Golling in the Salzburg region and the heavy influx of holiday travelers, particularly from Germany.

A Few Words of Advice from the Automobile Club

Though specific recommendations for this event aren't available, the ADAC usually advises:1. Stay Informed: Keep an eye on traffic updates to navigate the situation better.2. Plan Smart: Consider alternate routes or leave early to dodge peak hours.3. Use Navigation Tools: Rely on GPS or apps to find efficient routes.4. Prep Your Vehicle: Ensure your car's in tip-top shape and pack essentials like water and snacks.

Unfortunately, other areas like Tyrol weren't spared either. Places such as the Innsbruck region, the Brenner motorway toward Italy, and the Fernpass road experienced increased delays as well.

The Long Weekend Factor

With the long Whitsun weekend and Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg holidays kicking off, the ADAC had already predicted "traffic Armageddon," Earlier reports warned of heavy traffic congestion, especially on Whitsun Monday. There'd also be a surge in people seeking relaxation, particularly during favorable weather, heading to the countryside.

The ADAC suggests Pfingstsonntag as the ideal day for road trips amid this unfavorable weekend, with late Saturday afternoon potentially offering some respite too. But Tuesday? Not the best day for long road trips, as it's still a public holiday in some German regions, meaning short vacationers might still be on the move.
