The Düsseldorf Carnival Committee (CC) has announced Marcus Hülscher and Nicole Nothen as the new royal couple for the upcoming carnival season, marking a significant milestone as the city celebrates the carnival's 200-year anniversary.

Marcus Hülscher, the vice-president of the Düssel-Narren, and Nicole Nothen, the CC's youth representative, were chosen due to their passion for the carnival and their long-standing dedication to the festivities. Both have been applying as a royal couple for several years, with their dream finally coming true in June 2024.

Hülscher's late parents saved money to make his dream a reality, and his daughter Leni, an active member of the Originals' children's dance group, shares her father's enthusiasm for the carnival. Similarly, Nicole Nothen's husband, Horst, and Marcus's wife, Melanie, support the couple in their new roles.

Nicole Nothen is a dance trainer with the Schlossturmgarde and has participated in several prince and princess elections, even presenting the insignia. Her dedication to the carnival and her role as the CC's youth representative have made her an ideal choice for the royal couple.

Marcus Hülscher, who was contemplating his future as the session president of the Düssel-Narren last year, will now preside over the carnival alongside Nicole Nothen. The couple will be crowned on November 14, 2025.

The new motto for the next Düsseldorf Carnival session is "stay colorful, no matter what." This motto encapsulates the spirit of carnival and the diversity of the Düsseldorf community, which Marcus Hülscher and Nicole Nothen will represent.
