Dazzling Dalle de Verre Display titled 'Glass in Flight' captivates at Carlsbad Ranch's Flower Fields
Art Exhibit "Glass in Flight" at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch is currently hosting an exciting art exhibit, "Glass in Flight," by Tucson-based artist Alex Heveri. This unique exhibition features more than 38 large-scale steel and dalle de verre glass sculptures inspired by flying creatures and flowers in nature.
The dalle de verre technique used in Heveri's sculptures involves thick colored glass pieces embedded in supporting material, creating bold, richly colored, and textured glass art with a dynamic play of light. The glass slabs catch and reflect light dynamically, enhancing the natural imagery and adding a tactile, luminous quality to the art.
"Glass in Flight" showcases a variety of sculptures, some towering 12 feet high and together weighing more than 50,000 pounds. The massive sculptures, which represent more than four years of solo work by Heveri, depict natural subjects such as monarch butterflies landing on milkweed flowers and Rufous Hummingbirds, integrating the themes of flight and nature into a vibrant outdoor setting.
