Creating a Custom Lego Travel Case: A Step-by-Step Guide

Perfect for a Lego-Loving Kid!

Who wouldn't love a travel Lego box? Although it might not be necessary for everyone, my sister's little boy certainly needed one, considering his undying passion for Legos! So, I made two – one for him and one for his little buddy Aubrey. Since we no longer live nearby, they now chat over Skype, which is nothing short of adorable. However, most of the time, they end up playing games while the other watches or Aubrey runs around, leaving her cousin patiently waiting. Perhaps having their Lego boxes within arm's reach would help keep them entertained.

I stumbled upon this fabulous travel Lego box idea on Finely and Oliver and just had to make it for the little ones in my family. My sister has a great tutorial on her blog, so make sure to check it out!

As for my creation, I made a few tweaks. For instance, I used a simple flip-top box from Hobby Lobby and slapped some Star Wars fabric on it because the boys are completely smitten with Star Wars!

You'll notice that Aubrey's box is missing the lid. I mean, come on, when has a Lego piece smaller than a toothpick ever stood a chance against a curious little boy's fingers? But don't worry; the box still works wonderfully, even though the lid comes off occasionally, and there are no sharp edges to worry about. I even painted the lid and the sides where I hadn't covered the box with fabric to add a touch of elegance.

The box holds plenty of Lego bricks, and I'm excited for Liam to receive his so we can watch the boys play together via Skype. My hope is that this travel Lego box will keep them busy for hours on end! It might even give my sister a much-needed break, though I'm not holding my breath on the "lucky" part!

My favorite part of the entire project was letting Aubrey pick out the fabrics. We walked through a fabric store and presented him with all the superhero-themed options. He chose the fabrics for both himself and his cousin, and he beamed with pride throughout the entire shopping trip – because who doesn't love a trip to the fabric store, after all?

So, what would your little boy put in his Lego box? Do your kids build random creations like mine, or are they like Liam, with a keen understanding of which Lego sets build which toys?

This travel Lego box could serve as an excellent addition to a Lego-loving kid's home-and-garden, providing a portable playset for their on-the-go creativity. With his new box, Liam might even plan to build iconic travel destinations, broadening his lifestyle beyond just Lego creations.
