Booming cruise tourism in Khanh Hoa as over 19,000 foreign tourists arrive
Vietnam's Khanh Hoa province is witnessing a resurgence in international cruise tourism, with the region welcoming nearly 45,000 cruise ship passengers in January alone. This influx of cruise ships is a positive sign of the province's cruise tourism recovery and development.
On August 4, the cruise ship Ms Viking Yidun docked at Cam Ranh International Port in Khanh Hoa province. The ship brought 210 tourists from China, Canada, and Italy ashore. These visitors had the opportunity to explore local attractions, including the ancient Ponagar Tower, Truong Son craft village, and Long Son Pagoda.
Khanh Hoa is known for its scenic landscapes, cultural, religious, and artistic landmarks. The province has recorded over 10.8 million tourist arrivals this year, including more than 3.2 million international visitors. The cruise ship visits are complementing the broader tourism sector, contributing to a total tourism revenue of about 1.61 billion USD (42.379 trillion VND) so far this year.
The shift of cruise arrivals from Nha Trang Port to Cam Ranh International Port is due to ongoing renovation and upgrade work at the former. The Khanh Hoa People's Committee has removed transport bottlenecks to facilitate more cruise ship tourist arrivals.
By the end of 2025, it is expected that four more cruise ships will bring approximately 12,000 additional visitors to Khanh Hoa. This, along with infrastructure improvements at Cam Ranh Port, signals a robust future for cruise tourism development in the region.
In addition, about 1,700 tourists from Japan are scheduled to visit Ha Long Bay by cruise ship. Vietnam is positioning itself as a potential key destination for international cruise tourism, and Khanh Hoa is at the forefront of this growth.
