Catch of the Day Turns into Security Nightmare for Ellen Pompeo
Bomb Situation at Ellen Pompeo's Snack Scene amidst Bomb Scare Alarm
In a move that's as unpredictable as a Grey's Anatomy plot twist, American actress Ellen Pompeo found herself in a pickle at an airport security checkpoint. Her harmless snack choice nearly cost her a flight, thanks to a suspected bomb threat.
Pompeo, famously known for her role as Meredith Grey, had a bag of pricey sunflower seeds from Erewhon in her carry-on. The organic, top-shelf seeds, however, were more than just a simple snack—they were a disaster waiting to happen. These seeds soon became the center of an airport security fiasco.
"I had a bag of sunflower seeds—expensive, fancy, organic, clean sunflower seeds from Erewhon," Pompeo recalled in an interview with "Travel & Leisure." The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) had other plans, though. A chemical on the packaging of the seeds led to an alarm, causing quite a commotion.
Confused, Pompeo enquired, "What's going on? Is this a joke?" Unfortunately, it wasn't. The pocket-sized snack was a bomb squad's worst nightmare. Arguably missing her flight, Pompeo stood her ground, waiting for the all-clear signal. The unopened bag was deemed safe only after the bomb squad had a good look.
Pompeo can't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "I was literally held up for an hour and they even called the bomb squad. I almost missed the flight," she said. Little did anyone suspect, it was a bag of sunflower seeds causing the ruckus. "I wrote my PR agent: 'I might not make this flight, and you'll never guess why.'"
The Germaphobe Frequent Flyer
Airport nightmares aside, Pompeo has a soft spot for jet-setting. However, flight anxiety lingers, and germs are enough to make her break out in a sweat. "I have to do what Naomi Campbell does and wipe down the whole seat," she admitted. If Campbell's viral video of disinfecting a plane seat is any indication, flying with Pompeo is a clean affair.
Carrying water, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes in her carry-on has now become standard procedure for Pompeo, making her bag the flying pharmacy of the skies. Although sunflower seeds might be a luxury she can't afford anymore, her wrapping everything in a germ-free blanket seems like a small price to pay for peace of mind.
