Affordable Destination for Your Vacation: Best Budget-friendly Holiday Spots

Traveling can be a pricey affair, particularly in Germany. However, if you exclude the cost of transportation, there are several countries overseas where you can enjoy a more affordable holiday. Statisticians at the Federal Statistical Office have identified some locations offering substantial savings.

In Southern and Eastern Europe, you'll find vacation costs significantly lower than in Germany. In March, the average accommodation price in Albania and North Macedonia was a whopping 52% lower compared to Germany. Restaurant and hotel expenses in Bulgaria were also only about half the price in Germany (-51%).

Montenegro (-42%), Portugal (-35%), Turkey (-31%), and Malta (-30%) are also wallet-friendly destinations for Germans. Spain (-25%), Greece (-22%), Cyprus (-21%), and Croatia (-14%) provide lowered rates as well, making them attractive alternatives to pricier holiday retreats like Italy (-6% compared to Germany).

neighboring countries such as the Czech Republic (-33%) and Poland (-15%) also offer competitive pricing. On the other hand, Austria, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden can be considered pricier options compared to Germany.

For travelers keen on finding an inexpensive destination, there's good news: Eastern Europe boasts some of the most budget-friendly cities. Riga in Latvia is a prime example, recognized as the best value city for a short break in Europe, with a total cost of approximately €300 for 12 typical tourist items. Gdansk in Poland, though slightly pricier, still offers lower costs compared to its Western European counterparts. Podgorica in Montenegro and Bulgaria are popular budget-friendly options, as well.

Even within Germany, Eastern Germany is a more affordable choice compared to Western Germany. Overall, while Germany isn't the cheapest destination, it's relatively more budget-friendly compared to some Western European countries like France or Italy.

Enjoy a more affordable vacation this year and explore the wonders of Eastern Europe. Say goodbye to hefty travel bills and embrace an unforgettable getaway.
