Adventurous Journey: Exploring the Path from Budapest to Gerlingen and Returning
Leslie Mandoki, a renowned drummer, songwriter, singer, and producer, is set to celebrate his 50-year anniversary with a grand concert in his birthplace, Gerlingen. The event, which is scheduled for August 21, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the life of the Hungarian-born artist who has lived in Germany and California since 1975.
Mandoki, a founding member of the band Dschinghis Khan, established the Mandoki Soulmates in 1992. This rock/jazz "supergroup" is known for collaborating with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Ian Anderson and Al Di Meola. Over the years, Mandoki has produced 72 gold and several platinum records at his Red Rock Studio.
The concert, named "Freedom's Journey," is a musical self-portrait that encapsulates half a century of Mandoki’s artistic experiences, friendships, and ideals. It underscores Mandoki's evolution from his beginnings in Hungary to becoming an internationally recognized artist while maintaining the core themes of freedom and creative expression.
The journey of the Mandoki Soulmates led them back to Gerlingen, and the concert for Leslie Mandoki is a celebration of his longing for freedom that started over 50 years ago at the Bem Club, a cultural center during communist-era Hungary. The concert will feature the band's greatest hits alongside material from their latest album, A Memory of Our Future (2024).
Interestingly, the Mandoki Soulmates started their journey from Budapest, but the concert in Gerlingen is not part of the Mandoki Soulmates' "Freedom's Journey" concert series. Nonetheless, it promises to be a memorable event, bringing together music lovers to celebrate the remarkable career of Leslie Mandoki.
